15th Jun 2012 - 18th Jun 2012 The Gathering, Argyll, Scotland
With rock, roll and Harleys, Scotland gets LOUD at The Gathering 2012!
On Friday June 15 we opened the doors to our ninth annual rally – The Gathering.
Following on from our great success last year at our new rally location Drimsynie, Lochgoilhead in Loch Lomond National Park, returning to the same venue was a foregone conclusion. With ticket sales and accommodation being released in October 2011 we were somewhat taken aback to announce at our AGM in February, that only 50 tickets were left! The whole event was sold out by March 2012.
And it is easy to see why with fantastic accommodation available over the three days, from Luxury cabins – some even had hot tubs – to six-berth static holiday homes all overlooking the splendour of the park, lochs and mountains. All of the facilities at the holiday park were available to rally goers which included the indoor swimming pool, snooker table, jacuzzi and golf course to name but a few.
As well as the bars at the complex there was a real ale festival in the village together with superb restaurant.
Friday night saw over 80 per cent of the rally-goers arriving and settling down to the evening’s entertainment of Fat Alligator plus rock DJ, MC Waters. What a show it was – the dance floor was full until the wee hours. With the remainder of the rally goers arriving on Saturday morning, we kicked off with the Ride in Bike Show. This is a popular event run each year by the chapter with trophies awarded for the best in each Harley-Davidson family category. This year saw a new trophy, ‘The Peoples Award’, chosen by the local postman (without his cat!).
Saturday afternoon saw a sumptuous barbecue from Argyll Holidays who provided the energy for the evening entertainment. The night was replete with the return of the very popular Ballroom Gitz, a glam rock band clad in with lycra that kept us rocking the whole night!
Sunday morning saw the ride-out form up, and what a sight 100s of Harleys riding through Hells Glen and on to Inveraray Firestation for a bikers breakfast. From there the choice was either Inveraray Castle or Inveraray Jail (only to visit!) 3 o’clock in the afternoon gave the loudest noise yet with the loudest pipes competition; a fantastic turnout with the crowds urging the bikes on. The winner of the competition reached 122 decibels!
Sunday continued with the Highland Games Harley style, a great event culminating with the Tug O’ War. In the evening it was back to the function room with MC Waters and rock covers band, The Racketeers, who played until midnight with encore after encore. What a rally! If you are looking for three days of fun, rock and Harleys you know where to go next June, but book early – looks like another sell out!
